We cannot separate colloids using a filter paper. It is because the particles of colloids are very small that they can pass through the pores of the filter paper.

The size of colloidal particles is less than Inm, while the size of poi present in an ordinary filter paper is larger than Inm. Hence, a colloid solution cannot be separated by filtration.
