explain why generally only the male child suffers from colour blindness and not the female

Both male and female child will suffer from color blindness. But the chances of it occuring in male is ver high. Since color blindness is a X linked recessive disorder there is no condition that there should be both the recessive alleles in both the chromosome as males have only a single X chromosome. That means if males get one X chromosome he will be affected by disease whereas female need to be homozygous to get affected. The correct terminology used is that in males allosomes are in hemizygous condition.
