Halogens have very high negative electron gain enthalpy because -
1. They are good oxidizing agents
2.they gain an electron and get reduced by themselves
3.we know that the first electron gain enthalpy of every element except inert gases is negative and being good oxidizing agents , the halogens have very high negative epectron gain enthalpies
