(i) CO is heated with ZnO because CO acts as a reducing agent, when CO reacts with ZnO, it reduces ZnO to Zn.
ZnO + CO ----→ Zn + CO2
(ii) Hydrogen alumina is treated with NaOH solution because it forms dissolves in the latter (because of the formation of sodium meta-aluminate).
Al2O3. 2 H2O + NaOH -----→ 2NaAlO2 + 3H2O
