1.The paper surface is rough enough to provide a frictional force against the force that we apply on a pencil to write with. The friction between the pencil tip and paper causes the carbon from the pencil to be left on the paper. On the other hand, the glass surface is extremely smooth.

2.Grease decreases the friction between the surfaces in contact. So, as the friction is lessened, the person may not be able to hold himself or herself on the pole anymore. ... Therefore, it is difficult to climb on a greasy pole.
