Required Answer:

Correct Question (1st)

Explain what is increasing and reducing friction.

Answer 1st:

Increasing friction : When the friction increases when the object is in the contact with the rough surface, it is called increasing friction.

Ways to increase friction:

  • By pushing the surfaces together.
  • By using brakes pads in vehicles.
  • By applying coarse substance on hand.

◆ Reducing friction : When the friction reduces when the object is in the contact with the smooth surface, it is called reducing friction.

Ways to reduce friction:

  • By polishing.
  • By greasing.
  • By applying lubricants.

Answer 2nd:

Factors affecting friction:

  • Nature of the two surfaces in contact.
  • The force with which the two surfaces are pressed together.

Nature of the two surfaces in contact.

→ The amount of friction depends on the materials from which the two surfaces are made of. The rough surface produces more friction & smooth surface produces less friction.

The force with which the two surfaces are pressed together

→ The amount of friction depends upon the weight of the object. More the weight of the object, more the force will be by which surfaces are pressed together and hence the greater friction will be.

Same as that, less the weight of the object, less the force will be by which surfaces are pressed together and hence the less friction will be.

Answer 3rd:

→ Force of the friction is the force that resists the motion of an object or retards(slow down) the motion.

● It always acts in the opposite direction to that of the motion of the body.
