This is due to the presence of strong electrostatic forces of attraction between the ions.if the anion is common in ionic compounds, the more ionic compound with its cations having high atomic weight Will have more melting point

Answer:

Ionic compounds have high melting point because in ionic compound cations and ions are held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction.

Hence large amount of energy is required to overcome these forces.
