explain why is sliding friction less than static friction

It is so because in sliding friction only mechanical obstacles work but in static friction, adhesive bonds are also formed in addition to mechanical obstacles.

sliding friction is less than static friction because sliding objects find less time to get interlocked against each other's irregularities of the surface as a result of which the experience as friction.
