Explain why it is not enough just to say that a solution is hypertonic

when a solution is hypertonic then endosmosis occurs if the concentration of the body is less than the solution. So a solution can't be called as hyper tonic until a body is placed in it

Tonicity is a relative term. A solution can either be hypertonic or hypotonic but with respect to some other solution . A solution can be called hypertonic if it is more concentrated than the liquid we compare it to. So it not enough to say a solution is hypertonic. We need to mention the other solution as well w.r.t which it is hypertonic.
