A line cannot since it goes on indefinitely in both directions, and so has no midpoint. A ray cannot because it has only one end, and hence no midpoint.

A line has infinite length i.e. it can be extended infinitely on both sides, so it is not possible to find a point that divides it into two equal parts. So it is not possible to have a midpoint for a line.
