Explain why limestone is added to the ore in the metallurgy of iron

The limestone is used in blast furnace of. iron.

Iron has an impurity called silicon dioxide.During the blast furnace, limestone that is calcium carbonate is added to remove this impurity and change to calcium oxide.

This adding of limestone takes place when iron is in molten state
