Explain why magnesium,aluminium and iron metals cannot be identified by flame test.

Explanation:

Except beryllium and magnesium all the alkaline earth metals impart characteristic colours to bensen flame.

Due to small size of be and Mg atoms, the energy required to excite the valency electrons is very high.Which is not obtained in bensen flame.That is why Be and Mg do not impart any colour to flame.
