Answer:

Snow accumulates on branches and leaves or needles when there is high snowfall. The conical shape of conifer trees (mountain) prevents as much accumulation of snow as there would be on a wider shaped tree. The conical shape of the tree also helps to get the snow to fall off the tree quickly and to get the sunlight.

Many mountain trees are cone shaped and have sloping branches because -

• In the mountain regions, the snowfall is a regular climatic phenomenon.

• In this case, the snow gets stuck on the outer surface of the tree which obstructs the way of sunlight.

• Now,the cone shape and sloped branches prevents the permanent snow layer on the surface of the tree because snow slides along the slope of the branches and falls off from the tree.

• In this way,the tree gets rid of excessive snow and gets sunlight without any obstructions.
