In mercury , the force of adhesion between the molecules and glass is less than the forces of cohesion , a͟s͟ c͟o͟r͟o͟l͟l͟a͟r͟y͟ t͟o͟ t͟h͟a͟t͟ ,m͟e͟r͟c͟u͟r͟y͟ d͟o͟e͟s͟ n͟o͟t͟ w͟e͟t͟ t͟h͟e͟ g͟l͟a͟s͟s͟ s͟u͟r͟f͟a͟c͟e͟ .

cohesive force of liquid Mercury is greater than adhesive force between Mercury and glass due to which it does not wets the surface of glass.

*Cohesive Force: force of attraction between molecules of same substance (mercury).

*Adhesive Force: force of attraction between molecules of different substance (Mercury & liquid).

hope it will help you.Yet have any doubt then ask me.
