Explain why Ortho nitrophenol is more acidic than Ortho methoxy phenol

ether is attached to phenol..ether is a electron donating group it donates electron to oxygen atom increasing its electron density will decrease its polar nature hence decreasing acidic strength..

Hey !!

The electron withdrawing groups like -NO₂ increase the stability of phenoxide ion by dispersal of negative charge. The electron releasing group like -OCH₃ decrease the acidic strength of phenol by disestablishing the phenoxide ion by concentrating negative charge. Thus, o-nitrophenol is more acidic then o-methoxy phenol.
