Oxygen gas is always present in O2 form instead of O form because an atom always trying to be in its stable form and for Oxygen has O2 is the most stable form than O. So, it is present as O2 molecule in atmosphere.

oxygen is unstable when it is in a form of O and wants to combine with other O to be stable. (moral - every substance wants to become stable if it is unstable) I hope it helps you
