Explanation:

Green house is a tent like green coloured structure which is used for growing those plants which require high temperature. (please refer the image for green house)

In a greenhouse the sun rays enters inside but do not escape out as a result it increases the temperature inside the greenhouse.

Similarly, carbon dioxide gas acts as greenhouse gas. the whole atmosphere is like a greenhouse and the the carbon dioxide gas traps the sun's heat thereby increasing the temperature of atmosphere. this causes global warming due to the increase in temperature of atmosphere.

This is the basic principle of greenhouse effect.

So, carbon dioxide gas just acts as a medium for trapping the sun's heat inside the atmosphere.
