N–N single bond is weaker than the P–P single bond. this is because nitrogen atom is smaller in size than the phoshorus atom. this causes stronger repulsion between the lone pair of electrons on nitrogen atom resulting in N–N bond breakage. hence the tendency to show catenation is lesser in case of nitrogen. hope it helps you...
