Explain why should never join the two terminal of a cell directly by a wire only

The terminals of a battery should not be connected with a wire because............

1. The wire has some resistance and since current is flowing in this there should be some voltage across the circuit...... there will be heat produced.....there is waste in energy

2. There is a chance of short circuit.....
