in k shell two electrons complete this shell..

now after filling k shell we fill electrons in L shell with 8 electrons..

total electrons that filled =10

remain 1

Sodium has completely k shells and l shells because its atomic mass is 11 ,the k shell is filled by 2 electrons and l shell is filled by 10 electrons and hence remaining 1 electron is further lose by the atom.
