Answer:

Solids have a fixed shape because the cohesive force (intermolecular force of attraction) is very strong and the intermolecular space is very less. Solids have fixed shape and volume.

Liquids have very less cohesive force and the space between their molecules are large. Therefore they don't have a fixed shape but have a fixed volume as they occupy the shape of any container they are kept in.

Gases have the minimum force of attraction in their molecules and intermolecular space is very large. So they have both indefinite shape and volume.

Solids have fixed shape due to strong intermolecular force of attraction between them. The liquids and gases have molecules with less intermolecular force of attraction and hence they can flow and take shape of the container.

Hope it helps!
