1. Genetics/metabolism. Some people have a higher metabolism (genetically) than others, and do not require much activity to stay fit.

2. Diet. Weight loss/weight maintenance has a lot to do with diet. The people who stay fit walking may simply be eating a few hundred calories less (like not drinking that sugary coffee drink in the morning or eating a slice of cake for dessert ) so they do not have to workout as hard to “burn” those calories and meet their calorie needs, whether it be a caloric deficit for weight loss, or a caloric balance for maintenance.

3. Stress/Impact on Consistency. Walking is low-impact and low-intensity. There is low risk of injury and it is easy to get out and do anywhere. It is a low-stress activity (physically and mentally), which makes it a highly sustainable activity for those who enjoy walking. For those people who workout more intensely than walking, there is a greater risk for injury, chronic inflammation, and burnout. These factors can hinder metabolism, and they can also affect workout consistency.

Hope this helps !!
