During the sunset or Sunrise, the sun is near the horizon. so the light has to covered a greater distance to reach us . during this long journey most of the small wavelengths blue light scattered away from are sight, only long wavelengths of red light is present in the atmosphere , so we find only red light , due which sun appears to look reddish in colour. this is scattering of light

As the sunrays have to travel a large distance when sun is at horizon (i. e, sunrise or sunset)
So the light ray having large wavelength would be able 2 reach our eyes and hence sunrise anf sunset are red
