Tearing a newspaper is a physical change as no new substance is formed so it is a physical change and Burning of newspaper is a chemical change as new substance is formed that is Ash.

On tearing a newspaper, it can be rejoined by using glue and cello tape and is a physical change whereas on burning the newspaper we get smoke,ash,heat,light,etc and is a chemical change
