The sun looks reddish at the tie of sunset  because sun at the horizon  needs to pass through a thicker layer of air and larger distance so most of the colors of shorter wavelength is being scattered and the light that reaches us will be of longer wavelength.

1.When light comes from atmosphere it gets scattered by molecules of air , dust , water vapours ,etc

Light of indigo & violet colur is scattered in greater extent.

Hence colour of clear sky appears blue

2.At the time of sunrise & sunset sun is closer to horizon.

Hence sunlight has to pass thick atmosphere to reach earth surface.

Hence more light is scattered.

Hence sun looks reddish.
