cricketer moves his hands backward while catching a ball to reduce the momentum of the ball . since , momentum of ball is high after the batsman has hit it with a high velocity , the impact of momentum may be that the player may injure his hands while catching the ball
but he moves his hands backward to reduce the Momentum to zero since as the time pass the air resistance helps in slowing down the ball , therefore producing less momentum , Les momentum will not cause much damage to the hand of the player

because of Newtons 2nd law of motion. the ball wwas coming to fielder with very high acceleration . So fielder move his hands backwards so that acceleration reduce nd je catch the ball
