Main reason behind this phenomenon is the shifting of pressure belt towards equator during winter season , which in turn causes east flowing winds to migrate towards equator and they blow over 30 degree north latitude . This easterly wind carry moisture from Mediterranean sea and bring in rain along it's path Winter rainfall in North west India is mainly attributed to Western Disturbances.
