Because they're millions of miles apart and they are held in orbit by the sun's gravity. Small meteorites collide with the Earth every second though, but most burn up entering the atmosphere.
These planets gained enough mass that its gravity helped clear out the path in its orbit around the sun. That's how planets formed and the gravity cleaned out the inner solar system where the planets are located. ... The or planets are are orbiting the suan because the Sun's gravity is pulling them toward the but the planets are moving fast enough that the Sun is never there and they have enough inertia, energy AND momentum to stay in orbit. in an elliptical orbit....
