Because at different areas the gravitational pull is different. At the centre of the earth the gravitational force is maximum and at the poles it is least

Earth is not a perfect sphere.It is flattened at the poles and bulges out at the equator.So the equatorial radius of the earth is greater than the polar radius by about 21 km.

aasa due to gravity on earth surface is given by
g=GM/R^
g proporational to 1/R^
As, R equator > R polar
so, g earthThus, the value of g is minimum at the equator and maximum at the poles
