See it's a term named Bioaccumulation,

Bioaccumulation means accumulation of toxic substances, and other chemical substances.

It occurs when organism absorb possibly toxic substances faster than the substances lost by excretion.

In that way, biological half life will be increased of accumulated substances, that may lead to chronic poisoning.

All the best.

CONCENTRATION OF HARMFUL SUBSTANCES IN THE BODY OF ORGANISM OF A TROPHIC LEVEL IS KNOW AS BIOMAGNIFICATION,
FOR INSTANCE,
LET THERE BE DDT <POISON TO KILL INSECTS> IN THE WATER BODY CONTAINING FISHES ,THE FISHES GETS THIS CHEMICAL INSIDE THEIR BODY,WHEN BIG FISHES CONSUME THESE FROM SMALL FISHES THE CHEMICAL NOW ENTERS ITS BODY,WHEN THIS FISH IS CONSUMED BY A BIRD IT GETS THIS CHEMICAL ..LIKE THIS DDT CONCENTRATION INCREASES IN EACH TROPHIC AS DDT IS A NON DIGESTIBLE SUBSTANCE ...SAME WAY IN HUMANS  BECAUSE WE ARE ONE AMONG THE HIGHEST TROPHIC LEVELS
HOPE IT HELPS........
