From consumer's  Fuse it is very important to note that there are two separate circuits, in house the lighting circuit with 5A fuse and power circuit with 15 A fuse.

The lightning circuit is for running low power rating devices like fan, bulb, radio, Tv etc. which draw small current.

On the other hand, power circuit is for running high power rating devices like electric iron,  room heater, geyser, Refrigerator etc which draw heavy current.

Each distribution is provided with a separate fuse so that if a fault like short circuits, overloading  occur  in one circuit, its corresponding fuse blows off but the other circuit remains unaffected.
