Lattitude and Longitude are first of all not real lines but imaginary lines drawn on maps and imagined by geographists and explorers to help in navigation.
Basically, it is related to Geometry.
At 90 degree, it is perpendicular and at 180 degree it is straight line, so 90 degree north + 90 degree south = 180 degree = horizontal line right in centre of earth.
Similarly for Longitudes.
The earth is imagined as a perfect sphere though it is not so perfect, but that is what is generally accepted hence it is so.

Here's ur Answer Mate:-

Latitude is the angular distance from the plane of the Equator. Latitude only has to cover 180 degrees, from the North Pole to the South Pole. All circles make a maximum angle of 900 from the plane of the Equator. Therefore the maximum, latitude is 900 N in the Northern hemisphere and 900 S in the Southern Hemisphere.

Hope it helps uh!
