earthen pot has a large number of extremely small pores in its wall.some of the water fountain usually keep seeping through these sports to the outside of the pot this water evaporates continuously and take the latent heat required for vaporization from the earthen pots and the remaining water in this way the remaining water loses heat and get cooled.

Water looses its temperature through small pores present in the pot. Hence in an earthen pot (matka) become cool during summer.
