In colder countries, when temperature drops below freezing point the water starts turning to ice.

We know that as temperature falls, the pressure starts increasing.

Similarly when the water starts freezing inside pipe , the pressure starts increasing . After the pipe's pressure is crossed, the pipe bursts.

QUESTION:
water pipes burst in winters ... why? especially in colder countries..

Answer:
this explanation requires a bit of dive deep into the sea of physics ,

so the explanation goes like this :
as we know ,
that when temperatures drop down - water changes into ice - temperature goes below 0° - i.e. the freezing point . and when this temperature decreases , keeping mass as a constant which it usually is ,

since temperature is directly proportional to volume when temperature is decreased , the volume decreases too ..

now , since when volume decreases , pressure increases .. because pressure is inversely proportional to volume .

hence ,
pressure increases - thus a greater force us exerted on the pipes which compels it to burst up.
