If a transverse wave is moving in the positive x-direction, its oscillations are in up and down directions that lie in the y–z plane. Light is an example of a transverse wave, while sound is a longitudinal wave. A ripple in a pond and a wave on a string are easily visualized as transverse waves.

 \huge \text{Explaination }

✍ Refer Above Diagram For Explaination :

✍ Consider the rope tied at one end to the rigid support end free end is held horizontally as shown in the diagram.

✍ When free end is moved Up and down continuously, series of crests and troughs are formed in rope and wave travels along the rope.

✍ The particles in the the rope do not move along the the rope but they simply vibrate in a direction perpendicular to the direction of propagation of wave.

✍ Hence waves propagating along a stretched string are transverse waves.
