Particles of air have large spaces between them. On the other hand, wood has little space between its particles. Also, it is rigid. For this reason, we can easily move our hands in air, but to do the same through a solid block of wood, we need a karate expert.

hey friend,

Because the particles of gases that means air has larger space between them they are not rigid so we move our hand very easily .but, when we see wood it is a solid. so it is rigid. so we cannnot move our hand.

EXTRA INFORMATION :

Properties of gases:-

》Gases have large space between them.

》Gases have low density.

》Gases are highly diffusible.

》Gases are higly compressible

》Gases have high kinetic energy.

》 Measurable properties of gases are

♢ Volume of gas

♢ Pressure of gas

♢ Temperature of gas

♢ Amount of gas

Properties of solids:-

》Solids are rigid (no space between them)

》Solids are high density when compared to gases.

》We cannot compress solids.

hope it helps you dear...
