We can easily move our hands in air but to do the same thing with plank we need a karate expert because air is in gaseous state in which the particles have more intermolecular space through which our hands can pass thoroughly. ......but in case of a plank (a wooden plank) which is solid where there is no intermolecular space through which our hands can't pass.......thus we can move our hands through air because of LESS FORCE OF ATTRACTION. ....but in case of a wooden plank we can't move our hands because of MORE FORCE OF ATTRACTION. ...

Air is a gas, it has more space in between particles. But solid block of wood is rigid, hence it is difficult to move our hands through it.
