Actually, during night time, the overall light level gets lower and lower for the cells that help us to see i.e. the "cone cells" and we should know that cone cells are the ones which help us to see anything around us.
Hence, the ability to see anything clearly gets lowered in us and this is the reason we cannot see quite clearly as compared to what we can use easily during a day time.
Hence it also applies to the drivers and they need to be extremely cautious while driving on road as there might be an accident at any time. They are unable to visualize and differentiate between colors at that time properly.
