Explain why xefe has linear shape and not bent structure

Answer:

As XeF2 has 5 pairs electron around Xe forming a sp3 hybridisation. Therefore, it's geometry is linear. In XeF2 molecule there is 3 lone pairs and according to VSPER theory lone is stable at equitorial position so F atom is present at axial position due to which it's structure is linear.
