explain why xylem transport is the unidirectional and phloem transport bi_directional

this is their mechanism they work with different techniques do. their flow is different

xylem transport unidirectional because water always transports from roots to upper surface ...in case of extra water the excess water gets removed via transpiration while the flow of food in phloem is bidirectional because the food travels from leaves to different parts of plant ...the food if is in excess gets stored in form of starch and when needed again flows in phloem to transport it to plants so it is bidirectional
