Explain why zinc is used to cover iron so as to prevent rusting of iron

The use of zinc for preventing rusting is mainly because of following reasons:

1)It form thin layer which prevents entering of water and oxygen underneath .As a result Iron is safe from rusting

. 2)It act as sacrifical metal. Zinc is more reactive than iron , so it oxidises in preference to the iron object.Oct 9, 2015
