The straight answer is d-d transition in Zn
Let me explain a bit
You have Zn and Cu 2+,
In Zn2+ there is fully filled d orbital so it can't do d-d transition where as in Cu2+ there is one free electron which can do d-d transition and because of that it has a colour.
Thanks.
