Monsoon is characterized as the seasonal change in the angle or direction of winds associated with regions that bring tropical rainy season or the rain falls during a particular season.
In India, the monsoon occurs in two parts: Summer monsoon and Winter monsoon.
Summer Monsoon takes place between the months of April and September while Winter Monsoon occurs during the time of October to April.
Summer monsoons are quite beneficial for agriculture and it helps the farmers for irrigation during the hot weather while winter monsoon is often characterized as dry monsoons.
During the summer monsoon, warm as well moist winds blow towards India and other South-East Asian countries from the Oceans and bring torrential rainfall. During the winter monsoon, on the other hand, the moisture blows from the north-west and reaches the coast.
Therefore, summer monsoon is also known as south-east monsoon and winter monsoon as the north-west monsoon.
