Explanation:

average speed = total distance / time

= 180 /60 = 3m/s

average velocity = displacement/ time

= 0

Formula:

》Average speed = \sf{ \dfrac{total\;distance\;covered}{total\;time\;taken}}

》Average velocity = \sf{ \dfrac{total\;displacement \;covered}{total\;time\;taken}}

Given:

• length of swimming pool = 90m

• speed of usha(v) = 180m in one minute

• v = 180/60 = 3m/s.

Solution:

See the solution with refer to the above image!

》Moving from A to B and back to B her displacement will be 'zero'.

Displacement = shortest distance between initial and final position.

as she is initial and final at 'A', so the displacement = 0.

Average velocity = disp/time = 0.

------------

Distance = total length covered from A to B and again A.

Average speed = \bf{ \dfrac{total\;distance\;covered}{total\;time\;taken}}

\ v_{av} =  \dfrac{x + x}{t_{1}+t_{2}}

\ v_{av} =  \dfrac{2x}{ \dfrac{x}{v}+ \dfrac{x}{v}}

\ v_{av} =  \dfrac{2}{ \dfrac{1}{v}+ \dfrac{1}{v}}

\ v_{av} =  \dfrac{2}{ \dfrac{2}{v}}

Average speed = v = 3m/s.
