When base(2NaOH) and metals(Zn )react they forms a salt(Na2ZNO2) and hydrogen gas is also liberated.

Here Na2ZNO2 is sodium zincate which is a salt.

Hope this will help to all

Metals generally react with acids but some metals like zinc react with bases such metals are amphoteric in nature.

Reaction of zinc with sodium hydroxide.

The equation is as follows:

Zn + NaOH → Na_{2}Zn O_{2} + H_{2}

When granulated zinc is warmed with sodium hydroxide solution , sodium zincate is formed along with hydrogen gas.

This depicts the reaction between a metal and a base.
