When thermal energy is added to a substance, its temperature increases, which can change its state from solid to liquid (melting), liquid to gas (vaporization), or solid to gas (sublimation). ... When the pressure exerted on a substance increases, it can cause the substance to condense.

Obviously temperature effects the states of matter. If we increase the temperature of a solid or liquid, the particles gain energy and they break their forces of attraction. Thus it changes to another state . Hence temperature effects states of matter.

You can heat a solid ice. It will get converted into liquid . Heat further , it will get converted into steam .
