Answer:

temperature can effect the vegetation in different way: as the climate gets colder, either by increase in altitude or by going away from the equator. for ex - on the slopes of the Himalayas and hills of the peninsula, the fall in temp. affects the type of vegetation and its growth.

On the slopes of the Himalayas, and hills of the Peninsula above, the height of 915m, the fall in the temperature affects the types of vegetation, and its growth and changes it from tropical to subtropical temperature in the alpine vegetation

Temperature affects vegetation in the following ways:

  • Depending upon the vegetation species, the effect of temperature varies.
  • Temperature requirements can be less, more, and medium for the growth of different vegetations.
  • Extremely low-temperature situations like frost can make the plant sterile and can also abort the formed seeds.
  • High temperatures like extreme heat can affect the production rate of the plants.

Examples :

  • During high temperatures, blossoms of pumpkin, tomato, and cucumber plants fall off, and thus do not give any produce.
  • Plants like spinach, broccoli, basil, cilantro, and cabbage give produce earlier as temperatures surge. This is called bolting which is a survival mechanism.
