A lead accumulator is a secondary cell because electrical energy is not generated within the cell itself but it is previously stored in it from the external source. ... The energy is stored in the form of chemical energy. So this cell is a storage cell or accumulator or storage battery.

The lead acid storage battery is formed by dipping lead peroxide plate and sponge lead plate in dilute sulfuric acid. A load is connected externally between these plates. In diluted sulfuric acid the molecules of the acid split into positive hydrogen ions (H+) and negative sulfate ions
