Answer:

Animals exhibit camouflage as an adaptation to capture prey as well as for escaping from predators. Camouflage is typically a colouration pattern which the animal adapts to blend with the surrounding or nature.

It is adapted by preyed animals to disguise and escape from the predators. Predators adapt camouflage to conceal their identity to stalk and catch their prey.

                                Different types of camouflage:

  • Concealing colouration – animal adapts and blends its colour-matching with its background like snow owls, polar bear, flatfish, stonefish
  • Disruptive colouration – disruptive pattern like spots, stripes etc or colouration that breaks the normal identity of the animal-like leopard, zebra
  • Disguise – animal changes its appearance similar to some natural thing, eg., leaf insects
  • Mimicry – mimics like look-alike animals like snakes, butterflies.
