Explain with example how characteristics of a population changes over the years for the following situations-
(a) To gain survival advantage
(b) Due to accidental survival
(c) Temporary change of characteristics.
Answers
Answer:
a) green had advantages over red and blue beetles in bushes, as they could camouflage from the crow in the green bushes, over time the population of green beetle increased whereas population of red and blue beetle decreased
b) for instance say that an elephant put his foot onto a bush which lead to death of red beetles and green beetles, and blue beetles survived. this is accidental survival.
c)when bushes got diseases and destroyed every beetle was thin over time, when the bushes recovered, beetles were back to their sizes again
Characteristics of population changes
Explanation:
(a) To gain survival advantage: Peppered moth. These moths changed their colour to grey to gain survival advantage. The new colour helped them blend perfectly with soot coated trees.
(b) Due to accidental survival: Beetles are of two colour either red or blue. Elephants crushed all the red coloured beetle but not the blue ones. This is an example of accidental survival.
(c) Temporary change of characteristics: Hybrids are made by grafting two different species of plants to obtain a resultant plant with best characteristics of both the species. This is done experimentally and only the successful version is then propagated.
